The Guy With The Pencil Sharpener

A friendship some only dream of.

It was honestly a crazy way to start a friendship. We went from playing volleyball and eating Doritos, to fake dating in .2 seconds. But I wouldn't change it for the world. Life was small back when we met. Both of us, in the same graduating class, from the great state of Pennsylvania, and caught up in the everyday drama of a small campus, it's really no wonder how we got so close so fast.

I'll never forget the first night we hung out. It all started as your fake girlfriend for a hot second; ya know, I was just trying to help you out, but that turned into an hour of running around campus holding hands. People thought we were crazy, but we were just having fun. Lexi O'Sexy derived from that night as well as a life long friendship--someone I still go to when I'm sad, missing home, or just want to talk. You have become such a big part of my life in such little time.

When I was on Skype with you the other night, you said that you couldn't believe that I write about so many people that aren't in my life anymore. You said that you couldn't believe that I never wrote to the guy that gave me the pencil sharpener. You're right, though. I surround myself in such negativity sometimes, that I forget you are always right in front of me.

My last day at your school, you gave me some paint to fix up the walls in my dorm room. I fell down the stairs because they were soaked in soapy water. You laughed when I came back with a new shirt and a wet floor sign. You gave me a little box and a baseball. You told me not to forget you, called these things momentos (so cliche). I mean, how could I forget someone as goofy as you? (;

In the little box was a pencil sharpener from where you work--the Strasburg Railroad. To be honest, I'm not really sure what it is; I'm sorry I don't know as much about trains as you do. It sits on my desk everyday though. People always ask me about it, and I love when they do because it gives me a chance to talk about someone that made all the difference in my life.

It's kinda funny because when I take a step back from our friendship, we kind of suck. We barely talk, but when we're together we are a force to be reckoned with. We never know when to quit, but we always pick right back up where we left off after a little while.

I'm not really sure how last year would've went without you around, but I thank God every day that I still get to have you in my life. Here's to my fairy pinky hair and all of the pictures together that we can't post. You're one of a kind, and I will see you very soon. Love you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
