I must say that I am in no way a big fan of baseball. To go even further, I am not a fan of the Chicago Cubs or the Cleveland Indians. However, last night, I was not going to miss Game 7 of the World Series. I had followed this series because of the story behind these two teams and how long it has been since they have brought a title to their city. The Chicago Cubs hadn't won a series since 1908. The Cleveland Indians haven't won since 1948. Many legacies were on the line last night which made this Game 7 even more memorable than most recent world series. If Cleveland wins, it brings another title to the city just like the Cavaliers did in basketball this year. If Chicago wins, it ends the curse of them not winning a world series since 1908. As we know, the Chicago Cubs came out victorious last night winning 8-7 in extra innings. This honestly could have been one of the greatest games in baseball ever played. This game was never one sided either. The Cubs would have an early 2-0 lead and then the Indians would come right back at him. In the bottom of the 8th, the cubs were up 6-4 and then Raji Davis hit a two-run homer and tied the game back up. Neither team scored in the 9th inning, so they went extra innings.
To add to the suspense of this game, a rain delay occurred. After 20 minutes of waiting, we went to the top of the 10th inning and the cubs were up. The Cubs would score two runs that inning and then go to the bottom of the 10th where the Indians had their rebuttal. Cleveland scored one run, but the last of the game was a groundball towards Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant. He made the play and made the last out of the world series. The Chicago Cubs were world champions and the curse was broken. It was a great victory and fans of the Cubs were going absolutely nuts when they won. MVP of the World Series was Second Baseman Ben Zobrist who had one of the clutch hits in the 10th inning. Not to take away from his performance, but anyone from the Cubs could have won MVP. Dexter Fowler could have won for hitting the first home run of the game in the first inning or it could have gone to veteran catcher David Ross who also hit a home run in the game and may have played his last game in the MLB. It could have even gone to the pitching rotation for the Cubs. This was one of the greatest team efforts I have ever seen in a very long time and I will remember this game for as long as I live. I would like to congratulate the Chicago Cubs on their victory and I wish them the best in their future.
