When I first heard that "The Greatest Showman" soundtrack was going to be covered by many different artists into a compilation album, I got excited because this movie has become one of my favorite movies. While I don't have the album yet, I was able to listen to the songs on YouTube, and I was not disappointed. Since every song on there is awesome, I don't have a song I think is the worst, but I will rank them from least favorite to favorite.
"Come Alive"
I do like this version, however, when the cast sang it in the movie it felt more genuine. Everyone was singing and having the time of their lives because these people never really had a purpose in their lives before and now they do. For that reason, I think that I would stick with the original one.
"The Other Side"
Maybe I am being a little picky here. This version is not horrible, but I just like how well Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron sound together in the original version. It's like the duet you never knew you needed. While the hip hop vibe to it is good, nothing can beat Jackman and Efron (I hope they work together again!).
"Never Enough"
Don't get me wrong, I love Kelly Clarkson and she really knocked this song out of the park, but I guess I never really understood how this was considered an opera song when Jenny Lind was supposed to be an opera singer. I don't hate the song, I just wish it sounded more opera and less pop.
"From Now On"
Man, this song really makes a good country song! I actually love both versions of this song, the original because everyone is all singing together (Hugh Jackman should have definitely won an Oscar for this movie). I also love the country vibe in the original as well.
"Tightrope"
Perhaps on of the most underrated songs in the whole movie, the movie version and this version sound similar. I like that it shows that Sara was trying her best to stay true to the movie, and that is just awesome!
"Rewrite the Stars"
I do like the song and this version of it, but I can't help but picture Zendaya and Efron flying through the air and singing this song. They have such amazing chemistry, and it's making me like the original version a lot better.
"The Greatest Show"
I do love me some Panic! At The Disco, and let's face it, Brendan Urie can make anything sound good! Both versions are good because I love the rock vibe of the remix and the unity in the original.
"A Million Dreams"
This song should have probably been nominated for an Oscar (along with "Rewrite the Stars" and "From Now On"). Maybe I am being a little biased because P!nk is one of my favorite singers, but I love how she does this song. It is also cute that her daughter sang the reprise as well!
"This is Me"
This is one of the best songs in the film, and it means a lot coming from Kesha as well because for the longest time she couldn't make music and hearing her sing again just makes this song number one on my list.
What was your favorite song? Do you agree or disagree with these rankings? Everyone has different tastes so maybe you like some songs more than others and that is okay! No matter what, I think we can all agree "The Greatest Showman" deserved that Oscar! While P.T. Barnum was not that great of a guy in real life, we can all agree Hugh Jackman can make anyone look awesome!
