It's everything you ever want. It's everything you ever need. And it's here right in front of you. This is where you wanna be!
Why is it that "The Greatest Showman"has been in theaters for eight and a half weeks when the average movie run is only half that? "La La Land" stayed in theaters roughly around the same time, but wasn't as well-loved from the public despite the 14 Oscar nominations (compared to Showman's one). Both movies come from the same great minds of Benj Pask and Justin Paul, the same duo who brought you "Dear Evan Hanson" and "Smash".
It celebrates outcasts.
If you take nothing else away from "The Greatest Showman," at least understand that you are beautiful for being you. The Oscar nominated song "This Is Me" showcases this message like no one's business. Sung by Lettie Lutz, the famous bearded lady, after a hard blow by P.T. Barnum, we are told that even though you are broken and bruised, you are who you are. Nothing can stop you from that.
The movie showcases a group of people who are different because of how their DNA was created. You have Lettie, the tall Irish Giant, Dog Man, and even albino twins. You are unique in your own way, so flaunt it.
It has a catchy tune.
You will catch yourself singing the title song more often than not, and you may receive looks from your roommate that signals you to be quiet, or a pillow being thrown at you. Either way, the songs will always be on your mind. There are feel good lyrics, lyrics that get you out of bed in the morning, and all lyrics are shower friendly! Sing your heart out!
The cinematography.
From the first shot to the last, you will not be disappointed. The first time I saw it, the opening number made me cry. Granted, I was still emotional from my recent surgery. The scenery used and the costume design is beautiful. Scene transitions are some of the best I've seen in a long time from a live action movie.
Even though it doesn't seem like "The Greatest Showman" is leaving theaters any time soon, you should still hurry and see it! Although it came out in December of 2017, I think it deserves the title "Movie of the Year 2018."
