The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: 2016 Pop Culture
E News

2016 was a year of good music, celebrity feuds, and some really good (and really bad) Netflix revivals. After a year of pop culture has gone by, and we begin preparing for a whole new year of celebrity drama and T.V., let's take a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of this past year.

1.Bacherlor Ben Higgins (The Good)

2016 kicked off with our introduction to Ben Higgins as this year's bachelor. Ben was adorable and fun to watch on screen. He made most of the women of the U.S. swoon while sitting on their couch with a glass of white wine as they watched him and Lauren fall in love. Ben was a great start to 2016!

2. Fuller House (The Bad)

Fuller House promised to be the perfectly charming sequel to one of our all time favorite childhood shows. However, after its premiere last February, fan expectations fell short with the reality. The show's pacing was off, and many times jokes were over used or lacked comedic timing. Fuller House lacked the charm of its 90s predecsor, and fans seemed to notice.

3. Kelly and Michael feud (The Ugly)

When Michael Strahan announced his departure from the popular morning show, Live with Kelly and Michael, things did not go as expected. Kelly Rippa felt blindsided and backstabed, and took an unanounced leave of abscence from the show; sending a message to producers. After coming back and headlining the show without a host--and delivering a very awkard monolouge to her audience about the whole ordeal--things got even uglier when the former co-hosts started bashing each other all over again this past September. Yikes!

4. One Dance -Drake (The Good)

Drake's Summer Hit: One Dance made us feel good. It made us get up and dance, open our car windows and belt out the words! This song was a feel good song, and with everything that went on this past year, we really needed it.

5. Taylor Swift vs. Kimye (The Ugly)

Taylor Swift and Kayne West's feud has been an ongoing ordeal ever since West charged on stage during Swfit's 2009 VMA acceptance speech. After the pair's supposed reconciliation, the celebrites' feud was reignited when West's wife Kim Kardashian posted Swift's personal conversation with Kayne on Snapchat. People took sides as to which celeb they believed, families were torn apart, marriages broken up, cities seperated into two...Okay so not really, but this celebrity feud was one for the books.

6. The 2016 Summer Olympics (The Good)

The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio inspired a great deal of patriotism, as the U.S. earned 46 gold medals. One of the best parts of the Olympics was watching the young gymnastics team succeed in one of the most difficult portions of the games. It was great to watch "the girls next door" take home the gold medals!

7. Hairspray Live (The Bad)

Hairspray Live! debuted this December and fell grossly short of expectations. With its overly elaborate/unnecessary set changes, and star padded cast, Hairspray Live! lacked the energy of its orginal Broadway counter part. Despite its socially relevant message, the performance seemed anything but relevant.

8. The Return of the Gilmore Girls (The Good)

2016 ended with the return of our favorite mother-daughter-duo! The infamous pair made a splash back on screen--more like computer screens--with their 2016 revival. Don't worry, no spoilers here. Go watch and enjoy. It's worth it!

We saw the good, the bad, and the ugly this past year. 2016 was certainly one for the books, and it's hard to believe that it's time to start all over again. Maybe in 2017 Kimye and Taylor Swift will make up, NBC will stop feeling the need to reproduce Broadway shows live on air, and The Bacherlor will be just as good as last season. Who knows...we have a whole year to find out!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
