This is my first year not participating in Fantasy Football since I was twelve. This feels really weird. I have always been a big football fan, but this year I just didnt have the drive or effort to try and put a fantasy team or league together. The NFL is only a couple weeks into the season, but the fact I don't have a fantasy team this season has been very apparent to me.
Not playing Fantasy Football this year is different, not bad, not good, it's a little bit of both. Here are a few of the goods and bads of not playing Fantasy Football.
1. I don't have to cheer against my favorite team
The best part about not having a fantasy team is that I never have to cheer against the Packers (my favorite team) this season. I never have to utter the all familiar phrase of fantasy players "(Insert opposing team's player's name here) can have a great game, as long as (insert opposing team name here) doesn't beat (insert favorite team name here)." Every time the Packers are on TV I can fully appreciate them instead of hoping for a 100 rush yard game from Adrian Peterson.
2. The NFL is kind of boring
The NFL is easily the most popular sports league in the United States. With that being said, if the Packers aren't playing, I probably won't watch. I've become who I've always hated. I still love the sport of football, but I have come to the point where I could never watch a game between two mediocre NFL teams. I would much rather watch two bad college football teams play each other than two bad NFL teams.
3. I'm on my phone less
I am not constantly checking the Yahoo Fantasy Football app this year for free agents, trade offers, or injury updates. This has freed up an embarrassing amount of time and energy for me this fall.
4. I miss the fun a lot
Fantasy Football is a lot of fun and I miss it. I miss the trash talk, the thrill of being down 7 points going into Monday Night Football and knowing your best player is playing that night, I miss the thrill of victory and the justification of defeat.
Fantasy Football is one of the most trivial things in America, but there is a lot of good and bad in it. It is something I miss a lot some days and don't miss at all. This football season is not better or worse without it, but it is definitely different.
