To The Girl Who Turned Into Everything She Said She Wouldn't

It's crazy how someone says one thing and does another.

“I won’t be like them, I’ll stay by your side.”

You saw me when I was a mess, when I couldn’t handle life, when I wanted to be shown off and when I felt on top of the world.

It was amazing how someone can say one thing and do the complete opposite as you and I took months to discover why someone would do that. We picked apart everything and started building from the ground up like you were my fresh start and had the strongest base.

You promised:

I’ll never leave, I’ll never hurt you and I’ll always be here. You’ve watched so many people walk out of my life and you said that would never be you. You’ve held me when I cried and said I those tears will never be because of me. You’ve watched me say goodbye but you reassured me it would be a see you later. You’ve watched my biggest achievements as you were the loudest in the crowd or clapped the loudest when I walked the stage. You were my brick wall that you said was so sturdy, no one could break it. It’s funny to think how I am the one laying in the pile of bricks now.

Everything changes:

People grow, people succeed, and people change. Not everyone is meant to stick together but I was sure that you would stick around.

To your other friends:

Please treat them with the kindness which you had treated me for so many years. Be their brick wall that will not collapse and be their biggest fan who will clap the loudest in a crowd of 100. Be there to wipe their tears as I will not be crying anymore. Be there to comfort them when they are missing home because although I am far away, I have every piece of home I could ever want.

Please succeed in life and do big things but please know I wasn’t the one who left… you did.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
