To the girl who is still finding her way:

When you are finding your way in this world, it isn’t easy. I am the first person to admit that the journey that I have taken in my life is not what I have imaged for myself.

Right now, you don’t know what your future holds. You never know what will happen, where your opportunities will take you, or why you should even take them. But trust me when I say this: you will find a way in your life, even if it is not the path your imagined for yourself.

If you look back at who you were last year and what your life was life was like, you will find that it’s completely different than your life in the present moment. Your journey is meant to be unknown. It is meant to change from what you originally intended.

Feeling lost in a world where you are supposed to know your way instead of being lost can lead to confusion and frustration. Usually, life does not turn out the way that you planned for yourself, and it can be unsatisfying when you have a setback that doesn’t take you where you want to go.

But these setbacks—all the failures, rejections, and loss—shouldn’t discourage you. Instead, setbacks should motivate you and show you that something better is coming in your life. You must be patient and wait to see what is coming, what God has planned for you, and trust that you will have it all figured out one day—but today is not that day.

You also shouldn’t blame yourself for not having your life figured out at this exact moment. Trying to figure out exactly what you want to do in your life at this very moment is stressful.

Instead, you should embrace the feeling of stepping into the unknown without knowing what will happen next. Use this time to discover who you are because there is beauty in finding yourself. The only way you can grow as a person is if you assess your current situation. If you don’t like something about yourself, change it. If you have a dream, work hard until you achieve it. Along the way, you will never know what opportunities you will encounter or where you will end up, and that is the beauty of your journey.

It is up to you to change your life. You can either remain the same; stressed out about what will happen in your future, or you can go out in the world and create a future for yourself. The choice is easy, but making it is harder.

Being lost and feeling like there is no end in sight is difficult. You see others around you becoming successful and it makes you feel like that will never be you, that you will never measure up. But you must trust that this is only temporary and that this feeling won’t last forever.

So, stop thinking that your life should turn out a certain way. Rather than planning your life, take every opportunity that comes your way; you never know where it can lead. Never give up on finding something that will make you achieve your goals, and remember that finding your way is only part of the journey.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
