The Girl Who Is Always Smiling
Samantha Pedersen
"So many smiles begin with you."

There's something to say about someone who wears a smile on their face every single day. She's looked past life's imperfection and sees the beauty in positivity. Whether you realize it or not, the girl who is always smiling has an impact on all of our lives.

She stands for struggles. Because even though it doesn't seem like it, she's been through hell and back. This girl has put up one heck of a fight but she has never given up. Struggle has defeated everyone more then once but she's overcome life's hardest obstacles through her smile. She's remained positive even when her world was falling apart and that's how she knows everything is going to get better. She is the strongest person you will ever meet because she has won so many battles no one will ever hear about. Her courage is a badge of honor that she will never show because it's not about her, it's about everyone else.

The girl with the smile heals our pain. She knows what it's like to ache, she wants to heal our troubles. The smiling girl always wants to help and will put your needs before her own. Her love is deep and real, anyone who abuses that has something coming for them. Whenever you hurt, she hurts too. She can see you're struggling and she wants you to know that she is there for you. Her happiness can be spread by her wise words and companionship through the hardest of times. When clouds are grey, her smile is the sunshine following the rain.

Her smile loves this life. The biggest smile of them all is hers. The reason; she acknowledges how blessed she is. Her happiness comes from her ability to see the light in all and to believe the world is good. She's extracted the evil from her life and has learned to live simpler. She wants everyone else to feel this way too, she wants everyone to actually live. Waving at you from a distance is her speciality, whether you wave back or ignore her, she won't feel defeated. She'll try time and time again to warm your heart. She believes everyone should feel loved no matter what anyone says.

The smiling girl is always listening. You can talk to her about anything and she wants to listen. With wide eyes and open ears, she will listen to what you have to say about absolutely everything without ever interrupting. The conversations you have with her are always heartfelt and compassionate. Encouraging you to always be yourself, the girl with the smile wants to see your smile too. If no one seems to care, you can look to her for a friend.

Her happiness is contagious as hell. She'll turn up the music and make you dance around, if you feel like an idiot her ways are working. Her positivity radiates out of her and is felt by everyone surrounding her. No matter how bad of a mood you're in, you can't help but cheer up around her. She has a million ideas up her sleeve and is ready to do just about anything to spread the love. Her ability to make your day better is unbelievable because she never fails to do so.

The girl who is always smiling wasn't always smiling. There was a time when she felt there was no hope. At one point, she was ready to give up. But, she has come to the realization that spreading joy throughout her world is her purpose. She may be your best friend or the stranger you pass every morning before class. She might be the girl who always holds the door for you; you might not even know her name. However, her smile is a constant reminder that life is going to get better. She smiles for those who are close to giving up. She wants to be the reason why life is worth living.

Alone, she made her own sunshine and now she wants to be the light to everyone's life.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
