An Open Letter To The Girl That Gets A Bid To My Sorority
Her Campus

To the girl that gets a bid to my sorority,

I can't wait for you to open your bid. I can already see your face filled with excitement, and you jumping with joy when you see our chapter name and crest on your bid card. I'm so grateful to know that you came (and stayed) through Sorority Recruitment. I was just as nervous and petrified as you when the girls came out chanting and screaming their cheers at the door. I also know how difficult and stressful the process is considering I was in your place just one short year ago. I'm sorry if you didn't get the house of your choice, but I'm almost sure you're going to absolutely love it here. I can't wait to see you blossom in this sorority as I did, and meet your best friends for life. I'm so overjoyed that you're going to get to experience all of the wonderful things that our sorority has given me.

I'm so excited for you to learn our chapters ways and our secretive meanings. To come to the house during class breaks to sleep, do your homework and eat. Even to go through the long awaited process of becoming an official sister (believe me, it's actually fun!) When you get initiated, it is seriously a life changing moment, knowing you are officially a part of such an astounding sisterhood. I can't wait to see you walking around campus showing off our letters and your cute, new greek apparel. Big and little reveal will be such a thrilling time for you because you'll get showered with love and gifts by your new big sister. I'm telling you, your big is just as excited as you, as she's waited over a year to get to call a girl like you her little sister. She's probably been crafting gifts for you for months on end. If you ever have any questions about boys, friends, college life or even schoolwork, your sisters are there to help you through it all. If you're having a rough day, the house is always a great place to help you feel better. The house can help you socialize and meet new sisters.

I never thought in such a brief amount of time that I would be in the place I'm in now, recruiting all of you to be apart of this life-changing the experience. Before you know it, this will be you recruiting all of these amazing, beautiful girls to be a part of our sisterhood. Bid day is just a short time away, and I can't wait for you to experience the first of many spectacular events with this sorority that you will be experiencing over the next four years at college. I know you have something amazing to offer to our chapter and I can't wait to see what it is.

With love,

Your new sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
