It has been two weeks since the revival of Gilmore Girls, and now that everyone has had time to cool down over the shocking twist of an ending, it is time to look at why each episode makes sense, and how each one gives viewers the proper closure they have been waiting for.
Episode One: Winter
“Winter” is the episode that warms us up for the rest of the three episodes. We are introduced to all of the great characters we have missed watching, and what they are doing in their lives. This episode is exactly what we needed to see because it showed us that this was not going to be one of those revivals that ruins the show, but this is a revival that makes all the other seasons better.
-As the girls walk through town drinking Luke's coffee and talk as fast as they possibly can we think back to all of our favorite moments in each past episode.
-Some things in the town have changed, but as long as Miss Patty is teaching dance, Gypsy is fixing cars, and Al's Pancake World is serving anything but pancakes, it is still Stars Hollow.
Episode Two: Spring
"Spring" is the episode that references back more than the other three. It shows us that even though things may not always turn out how we expected with our careers and lives, everything is connected and each experience we have shapes us into the person we will be in our future.
-We see it with Rory as she struggles to have a career in journalism, but finds happiness in writing a book about her relationship with her mother.
-It is also shown with Kirk and Lane. Kirk has attempted every career possible and ends up being really amazing at planning Lorelei’s wedding. Lane did not end up making it big with her band, but she is happy as a mom, and she is still able to play with her band in town doing what she loves.
Episode Three: Summer
With all of the ups and downs that “Summer” gave us, it did
a great job of giving us closure with two important relationships: Emily and
-Emily and Lorelei after years of being at each others throats began going to therapy, and even though it did not work right away, we see the two come clean with each other and really try to fix their relationship.
-As we have seen many times before, Lorelei runs when faced with relationships that have potential. What this episode gave to us was the chance to see that she is fully committed to her relationship with Luke, and when faced with the chance to leave forever, she doesn’t take it.
Episode Four: Fall
In “Fall,” full circle ending connections are made, whether they are small little flashback connections that make use laugh, or giant connections that we still cant believe.-We finally get the wedding we have been waiting for since the first season when we realized Lorelei and Luke should never be just friends.
-As Rory is running around buying things for her mother's wedding, she runs into Dean and they laugh about the box of corn starch she stole after their first kiss in the first season.
-The plot twist that none of us were expecting: Rory is pregnant at age 32. Even though it may be upsetting, it does make sense if we look at the fact that Rory is the same age as Lorelei when season one began. Rory and Lorelei have always been connected in weird ways, being a single mother tops it all off.
