Our heavenly Father created an ineffable creation filled with beauty, wonder, and love. Sin and darkness may contaminate but his glory and power remain strong and Earth is still full of aesthetic wonders! Proverbs 95:4 -5 reminds us, “In his hands are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.” Since God, out of his omnipotence, created this incredible planet, why not explore it! As a child, I always dreamed of leaving my small perimeter of Jamestown to go on an expedition, to see new things, engage my mind intellectually with new sites, and enjoy life. Thankfully, the last few days I have written a few more chapters into my life of adventure by traveling to Florida.
My close friends and relatives will testify to the fact that I often become bored with routine, and need an adventure to encourage me once more to keep trucking along. College is a fun time in one’s life, but the mountains of interminable assignments, projects, work, and classes disheartens my spirit of adventure. Evidently, I prefer movies and shows where a group of friends travel, fight crime, and further bond with each other. Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Doctor Who and the Flash all display the incredible excitement of adventure. On the other hand, whenever I watch shows like When Calls the Heart or Andy Griffith, I find the routine embodied in those shows to be boring, and rather dull. A dose of adventure here and there recharges my diligent character and boosts my productivity when routine comes back full swing.
Our planet is roughly 25,000 miles around, that means there are numerous cities, towns, villages, and areas to explore, learn from, and establish connections with. As a business major in college, the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is the world’s hub of business and it’s on my bucket list to travel to. Hong Kong, an independent business-friendly territory tops my list of places to embark a journey on. Europe is not only famous for its historical background, the overflowing of distinctive architecture and attractions make jaded travelers burst with enthusiasm. I would enjoy driving a BMW on the smooth roads of Italy, have lunch with the TOP Gear stars in London at an affluent steak house, stay at a hotel with a view of Florence, riding in a water taxi passing underneath the Ponte degli Scalzi, and taking in all the history.
My mind eventually acquires a jaded attitude about the ins and outs of daily life, further necessitating new things to encounter. Once an adventure is closing, I begin to think about all the blessings God bestows in my life. Needless to say, I begin to appreciate all the conveniences I have in my current circumstances and brush off the small inconveniences. Motivation begins to find its way into my studies once more, making the rest of the semester a breeze (until the end of course). After I come home from traveling, I am fully charge to conquer the following assignments.
Traveling is a gift from God. Most of us crave for something new and vibrant, but keep on longing for it, but thankfully God mercifully presents us with newness and enthusiasm periodically. I am not against routine and schedules because I of course follow one, however, an adventure is necessary once in a while. Praise God for the endless things to see and explore.
