The Generation That Goes Too Far

It is time for a change.

We live in a world where you cannot leave the bullies behind once you leave the classroom. With social media and cell phones, it follows you everywhere. All it takes is a quick search, and you can contact anyone you want. A post can be seen by anyone and everyone. People are quick to claim that they are innocent, that they do not bully, that they could never stand for that. Then explain why it still persists, why there is no action being taken. Our generation created this world. We are destroying the good in the world.

There are boys and girls around the world being pushed to harm themselves, to commit suicide. There are boys and girls posting vicious things on the internet for the world to see. A person can tell the world they are bullied, and people dismiss it. People are quick to believe that nothing bad happens, that "she couldn't have been bullied because she's pretty, and smart." Being attractive, and smart does not shield you from the hurt and the pain. Being attractive and smart, if anything, makes you a target. Teenage girls want to be on top, they will do anything to pull down girls around them. Girls are taught how to be mean, how to "survive in the world." I don't want my future children to grow up in a world where they can be hurt with a few clicks of a button. I don't want my daughter to grow up learning to put other girls down. I don't want to teach my daughter how to be mean. I want my future children to know that it is okay to stand up for others, it is okay to help others out.

I do not want my future children to be bystanders to bullying. I do not want anyone to be a bystander. If you are not contributing to the solution, you are contributing to the problem. Whether you agree with the bullies or the victims, you are a bully, even if you are doing nothing. Standing around and allowing friends to do awful things, makes you awful. Do not let your friends hurt others. Do not stand in the way of another's happiness. Why, is this happening to our students? Why is no action being taken?

The answer is simple: People are scared. People are scared to stand up because they don't want to become the next victim. You need to throw that fear out the window, because wanting to remain unscathed, while watching someone else be brutally cut to shreds, is hypocritical. Why do they deserve that pain, and you do not? You are no better than them.

I am 20 years old, I am still dealing with bullies in my adult age. Unfortunately, it follows you everywhere. From middle school to high school, to college, to the workplace. There is no escaping the mean comments, the evil words. Take it upon yourself to change that. Don't sit silently and watch. Don't put others down because they have less than you. Don't try to shove people into the dirt because they have more than you. Be the bigger person, believe in the good in the world. Be the good in the world. Change is inevitable, because, without change, the world will be lost forever.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
