The Generation Of What?

We are at the perfect point in our lives to initiate future change.

The Generation Of What?
Wild Apricot

So much of what we as a society see and say throughout the media is extremely biased, whether it be about police brutality, presidential campaigns or a declaration that our society has become soft. There is certainly no shortage of all the things that are going wrong in our society; however, we can't sit around tweeting about it without doing anything. As the millennial generation we can begin to use the power of the internet to change that.

We are at the beginning of a generational of change; everything we know as normal is new compared to what our parents and grandparents know. Technology has become an indispensable part of everyday life and it's how we get all of our information about the news. Whether it be from Facebook and Twitter or online broadcasts of CNN and NBC. The internet, undoubtedly, is at our fingertips and is extremely helpful in informing us.

However, I found that many people of our generation struggle with finding their own voice. They speak through links, articles and pictures but don't necessarily have their own decisions. The reason I say this is because I think the biggest thing we need to change in our society is the idea of open-mindedness. I'm not saying that we need to hand out participation trophies and tip-toe around every major controversy that pops up. However, we need to understand that living in a mindset that is so sedentary and unwilling to budge does nothing for our cause or anybody else's. If we stay hard-pressed to go against everything that comes out abortion/LGBTQ/gun control we end up deadlocked.

You can be as patriotic as you want by not supporting abortion/LQBTQ/gun control but hating the government for considering supporting it doesn't make you more patriotic. I'm not asking anyone to change their viewpoints on anything, I'm merely asking you to consider that we not bash the people who are the faces and voices on the other-side of your opinion. Most likely the person/stance who you are arguing against is just as stubborn as you are, so if you can lend your mind to a little bit of understanding, who knows what will happen. This is America where people have the freedom to believe and think whatever they please, so go about thinking and believing in a way that is conducive to creating mutual change.

We're a very capable generation and we're equipped with strong ideals. We know how to say what we feel and we aren't afraid to say it. Now we just need to get to a point where we can all speak and be heard to make our society something we all can be proud of.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
