The Game Awards Results

This year marked the second annual Game Awards. After a decade-long run with Spike, Geoff Keighley now hosts his own event, streaming online via YouTube, Twitch, and directly to Xbox, PlayStation, and Wii U. As with Spike Video Game Awards, The Game Awards are held the first week in December and it is still considered to be one of the highest honors in video games.

Here are the results in the order they were announced on Friday's event.

Prior to the show's actual start, Geoff Keighley announced that the winner of Best Family game: "Super Mario Maker."

Nominees included: "Disney Infinity 3.0," "Lego Dimensions," "Skylanders: Superchargers," and "Splatoon."

Best Fighting Game went to "Mortal Kombat X," also announced before the start of the show.

"Mortal Kombat X" beat down "Guilty Gear XRZ," "Rise of Incarnates," and "Rising Thunder."

Best Multiplayer Game: "Splatoon"

"Splatoon" beat: "Call of Duty: Black Ops III," "Rocket League," "Destiny: The Taken King," and "Halo 5: Guardians."

Best Mobile Game: "Lara Croft Go"

"Lara Croft Go" won despite fierce competition from: "Downwell," "Fallout Shelter," "Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate," and "Pac-Man 256."

E-Sports Team of the Year: Optic Gaming

Optic Gaming Won over: Team Solomid, SK Telecom T1, Fnatic, and Evil Geniuses.

Keighley also mentioned that Most Anticipated Game of the Year went to "No Man's Sky."

"No Man's Sky" beat out: "Horizon Zero Dawn," "Quantum Break," "The Last Guardian," and "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End."

Best Narrative: "Her Story"

"Her Story" beat: "Tales from the Borderlands," "Life is Strange," "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," and "Until Dawn."

Favorite Trending Gamer: Greg Miller

Greg Miller out-played: Total Biscuit, Markiplier, Pewdiepie, and Christopher "Montecristo" Mykles.

Best Indie Game: "Rocket League"

"Axiom Verge," "Her Story," "Undertale," "Rocket League," and "Ori and the Blind Forest."

Keighley announced that the award for Games for Imapact went to "Life is Strange."

Nominees included: "Cibele," "Her Story," "Sunset," and "Undertale."

Developer of the Year: CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red out performed: Bethesda Software, Nintendo, Kojima Productions and From Software

Best Art Direction: "Ori and the Blind Forest"

"Ori and the Blind Forest" won over beautiful games like: "Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain," "The Witcher 3," "Bloodborne," and "Batman Arkham Knight."

Best Action/Adventure Game: "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." Keifer Sutherland accepted the award "on behalf of Hideo Kojima, who was told he was not allowed to be at the awards in lieu of this year's falling out with Konami.

"Metal Gear Solid V: TPP", "Ori and the Blind Forest," "Rise of the Tomb Raider," "Batman: Arkham Knight," and "Assassin's Creed: Syndicate."

"Metal Gear Solid V: TPP" also won Best Score/Soundtrack.

Best Performance: Viva Seifert for her work in "Her Story"

Viva Seifert talked her way to a victory over: Ashley Burch (Chloe Price "Life is Strange"), Doug Cockle (Geralt "The Witcher 3"), Mark Hamill (The Joker "Batman Arkham Knight"), and Camilla Ludington (Lara Croft "Rise of the Tomb Raider").

Game of the Year: "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt"

The Witcher 3 clinched a victory over: "Bloodborne," "Metal Gear Solid V: TPP," "Super Mario Maker," and "Fallout 4."
