As I’m writing this, it’s Election Eve.
The first polls on the East Coast open in under 12 hours. Most Americans will go to bed tonight knowing who they will vote for tomorrow. Our future is being decided.
But by the time this article will be posted, the future will have already been decided. A winner will already be declared.
The person elected will shape our country for the next four years. They will impact national, economic, and foreign policies. The person elected holds the power of the entire country, even the world in their hands. They will have to make the tough decisions that will change the course of history for decades.
Although this terrifies me, I have hope. I believe Americans will make the right choice for our country. I believe that we, as Americans, will not vote for the candidate that is racist, homophobic, and sexist.
I believe that we as Americans will break history in voting for the first woman President of the United States.
I hope to see gun violence be a thing of the past and no one ever having to live in fear. I hope one day everyone can get a college education and a job that will provide for them. I hope to live in a world where the environment is protected and cared for. I hope one day everyone can be provided basic necessities, such as food, clean water and shelter. I hope to see the hate and racism of our nation be replaced with love and acceptance.
I hope to live in a world where every little girl can have the dream of being President when she grows up.
I hope that is the future that has been decided.
