Being on a budget can definitely inhibit gift choices for friends and family around the holidays. So here are some great and quick DIY gifts for any type of loved one that I always go for.

1. Hot Cocoa Jar

How can anyone hate on hot cocoa? Especially during snow days, cuddling up with a nice Anthropology mug beside the fire with cocoa in hand is the best remedy. As you can see in the picture, there are multiple ways to spice up the jar. You can use salted caramel hot chocolate mix, for instance, and put caramel bits inside. Or you can always go with the classic milk chocolate mix, marshmallows, and candy cane bits. If you’re feeling fancy, go buy a cute mug at Target or the Dollar Store and stick all the ingredients in a cellophane bag into the mug, tie a cute bow, and you’re good to go!

2. Painted Canvas

If you are trying to DIY something more personal for closest friends and family, buy a simple white canvas from Michael’s (around $5.99 depending on size). Then, proceed to write (or paint) a cute message, possibly an inside joke or their favorite artist’s song lyrics. For example, for one of my best friend’s birthday I painted Ben Rector lyrics because we went to his concert. Believe me, I am not talented in the artistry area, but this is super easy and relaxing to do! The easiest method would be to use sharpies that are either gold, bronze, black, or silver.\

3. Chunky Knit Blanket

Okay, so maybe this is getting kind of crafty, but I promise this one will not take long and will turn out super unique and comfy! These huge knit blankets are becoming increasingly trendy, meaning the prices will most likely be higher, so why not just make it? The blog “Simply Maggie” (http://www.simplymaggie.com/arm-knit-a-blanket-in-...) promises it will only take 45 minutes (using your arms, no needles), and the type of yarn is under $10! If your friend or family member is really into interior design or being cozy then this is the perfect gift for them!

4. Homemade Bath Bombs

This is super easy to make and will guarantee a delighted reaction from the receiver. Although bath bombs is a better stocking stuffer rather than gift, it can always be combined with a spa package of face masks, a massage Groupon, and lotion.

The link below will guide you through it!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
