There are things that we, as humans, don’t appreciate as much as we should; the environment is one of them. The world around us is so incredibly important; it sustains us as human beings, but all we give it return for our life is bringing it closer to its death. Everyday we release the ozone from our cars into the atmosphere, gruesomely tear down habitats for animals, and destroy the planet for our own benefit.
Although some efforts are put forth towards the conservation of the environment, people often overlook these efforts and the government frowns upon them. The political leadership in this country often tries to skew the opinions of the people and convince them that the environment is okay and being fixed. These false ideas about the environment lead to people to not fixing what is broken. The government has enacted laws and bills, such as the Clean Air Act, the Wilderness Act, and the Endangered Species Act, all intended to protect natural habitats and those who inhabit them. Sadly, these laws do not stop developers from cutting down green space for homes or shopping complexes, either displacing or killing all animals that live in that area.
Also, there is a common idea that if we do not fix or clean up a source of pollution, someone else will. This untrue and detrimental thought seems to be consuming the minds of many people, which leads to the increase in environmental problems that we are seeing today.
Ignorance about the problems we face today are making the issues progressively worse. Education about these issues is at a minimum and does not address the full extent of our problems we face. The environment is a lot more important than people believe.
