The FOCUS program at Guilderland High School

Well, there's this little program called FOCUS at Guilderland High School. Actually, it's not so little. It has helped so many kids including me to haul their asses through high school and graduate.

When I first came to the high, my ninth grade year was a mess. I was always fighting and getting into trouble and failing my classes. So, they introduced me to FOCUS. What is it? FOCUS is a program that helps about 70 kids each year in grades 10 - 12 who have issues with any of the three A's. Academics, Attendance, and Attitude.

The program has been a part of the high for 30 years. Let me just tell you how much the program has helped me. I don't even know if I would've graduated if it wasn't for the program. The teachers and students became apart of my daily routine and once I graduated, it was really sad to not be apart of it anymore. They make you want to be something.

Family was probably the best part of it all. Aside from being apart of the entire group, each year you're assigned to a "family" which includes a teacher who's in the program and about 10 or so other kids and you talk and laugh and support each other and it's an incredible experience. We really were like a family. We'd bicker and joke but also stand up for each other. The program has rules as well but that's what kept everyone in check. We also helped the community every year for thanksgiving, we went out and gave back to the community. There's too much to even put into words to describe how great FOCUS really is. Everyone works together as a community and just pushes one another to do better and it's an amazing thing to have been apart of.

Without focus, I would've probably been held back a year still worrying about things that didn't even matter. I just don't have enough words to explain what the program did for me. Thank you is all I can say.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
