I don't know about ya'll, but patience is not a strong suit of mine at all. It takes all the self-control I have to not let my temper get the best of me. Especially in this heat, which I like to call Satan's heat. It can get really difficult ya'll.
Just like anything in life, there are lessons to be learned. Lately, I've caught myself losing my temper with people or not showing them the same patience that I would like in return. I'm sure that is a struggle for a lot of people out there. However, it's our job to be aware. It's our job to catch these traits and try to change them in an attempt to be more Christ-like.
Everyone has an outlet, mine just so happens to be writing and poetry. Whenever I am going through something or I am thinking about something, I automatically turn to writing. For this article, I wrote a poem about my temper that I'd love to change. Hopefully, it is relatable and helps put things into perspective for anyone out there reading this. So here we go:
Temper's Fortress
Beware the quick and sharp beat of the tongue,
When tempers flare it is never much fun.
It is a vessel to destroy and a weapon to kill,
It is appalling to the ears and incessantly shrill.
It is never pleasant and remains a challenge-
To control our tempers to cease the damage.
Lack of self-control is the temper's fortress,
Painted with anger is the temper's portrait.
Let go of the rash and temperamental reactions,
Stray away from the uncalled for and hurtful actions!
Some may say to control it count your fingers,
For some, that tactic fails and the feeling lingers.
The ultimate way to destroy the temper-
Is to face it head on and ultimately dismember-
The savage temper's fortress and all it contains,
By looking to Jesus for Jesus Christ reigns.
He reigns over all and only He can control,
The disparaging tongue and make us all whole.
He is our strength and anger is our kryptonite,
Only He has the power to help us win the fight-
The fight against the temper and all its inhabitants,
Must we destroy and put the temper back into abstinence.
