Pizza is an undeniable staple of the college experience. Its cheap, tastes good, and is pretty easy to make. Because of this, in a college town like Gainesville it seems there are pizza places on every corner. In a city filled with so many I can be difficult to pick out the best so I complied a list to make deciding where you’re going to grab your next slice of pizza a little bit easier. These are the five pizza places every UF student has to experience at lease once.
1. Leonardo’s By the Slice
This restaurant is a Gainesville staple. It features fantastic pizza and a variety of toppings, salads, pasta and calzones. Leonardo’s rolls are also incredible. However, this restaurant recently announced it would be closing next year, so hurry and try it before it’s too late.
2. Satchel’s Pizza
Satchel's Pizza is perhaps Gainesville’s most unique pizza place. Satchel’s offers quality pizza in a quirky setting, complete with the famous Satchel’s van. The pizza is fantastic, and they also offer their signature homemade sodas and a variety of desserts. This place is a must for every UF student to experience at least once.
3. Big Lou’s NY Style Pizza
If you’re ever on a budget but still want quality Big Lou’s is the place to go. Big Lou's has a big menu with many options for a quality price. The restaurant has a classic Italian New York pizzeria vibe. It’s the perfect place to go to lunch or for a quick bite to eat while exploring downtown.
4. Blaze Pizza
Blaze is Gainesville’s newest pizza place. However, it’s hard to remember a time that Blaze wasn’t here as it has already shown to be a very popular quick lunch and dinner spot. Blaze allows the customer to create his or her own unique pizza, selecting specific sauces and toppings from a sort-of-buffet-style line before your pizza is cooked in an Italian-style pizza oven. This process provides a lot of creative freedom for the customer to eat whatever he or she likes.
5. Italian Gator Pizza
If you didn’t end a night out with the Italian Gator, commonly referred to as Pizza by the Slice, did you even go out? The pizza itself is good, quick and relatively cheap. This restaurant is located in the middle of midtown and it is open until 2:30 A.M., making it a popular late night location.
