Ah. We're finally here. That six-week long break that all Union students simultaneously love and hate. Yes, it's awesome being home, especially if you're like me and haven't returned since September. It's nice seeing your friends, your family, and most importantly, your dog. It's nice indulging in food that doesn't taste like cardboard (shoutout to West). It's all really nice until your home friends leave to go back and conquer finals, and you're left wondering how to spend the next five weeks.
In addition to wondering how many sweaters I can knit or how many underwater baskets I can weave over this break, I'm also reflecting on all the interesting aspects of my first week home. It was weird, I felt like I was acclimating back into the real world, a world that wasn't Union.
Woah, weird!
Without further ado here are the highlights from my first week home, in Spongebob GIFs, because there is nothing more ~relatable~.
Returning to NYC
I had a friend drive me home so I didn't quite get the "Hello, New York!" dramatic getting off the train scene. I did, however, get a lovely greeting from my dog.
Eating real food again
I was really looking forward to this one. The food at Union is 10/10, for sure, but home food is 11/10. Breakfast at my local coffee shop was an intense experience. I'm not good with change and they painted a previously red wall, white. I was distraught but immediately consoled with my egg and cheese and iced cappuccino.
The first shoeless shower
Showering with shoes is something you definitely get used to as a college student, but I so did not expect that it would feel weird to shower without them. Like I felt kinda naked as if something was missing.
Seeing friends from home
You always forget how weird home people are until you see them again. There's stuff that college friends will just never understand, and that's totally okay.
Realizing you've caught up on sleep
After having spent what felt like an entire term in the library hopped up on finals, adrenaline, and caffeine, coming down from the high is cathartic. The way to do this is through sleep, and the day you realize you're back to normal human functionality is a beautiful day.
Being home has been great so far, I'll be sure to keep my Odyssey followers (do you guys exist?) updated in the next few weeks, they should be interesting.
Sincerely,
Lost for 5 more
