The First Week Back to College As Told By "Parks and Recreation"

The first week back to school following break is one of the hardest. Going back to class, studying again, having to be up early, none of it is fun. Everyone is tired, cold and trying to adjust back to the life of being on their own. However, Parks and Recreation can perfectly explain the struggles of the first week of the second semester.

When you're looking at your syllabus and class details and understand nothing:

When you finally get the nerve to look at all your notifications your professors starting sending over break you'll find the syllabus for the class. At first glance it doesn't seem so bad, but the more you read the more you get confused. Quizzes, exams, projects? What's it all mean?

When you wake up for your early class and try your best to convince yourself you're not a cranky mess:

With four weeks off from break you were free to stay up as late as you wanted binge watching Netflix, going out, anything you wanted and then slept in till late in the afternoon. Now that school is back you realize how difficult waking up before noon really is and how cranky you are.

When you're reunited with your bestie after too much time apart:

Everyone wants to stay in touch over break but going home for four weeks can get busy and by the end of break you haven't seen your bestie at all. When you're both back on campus it'll be like seeing each other for the first time.

When you remember you have to be a responsible adult again since you're mom isn't around anymore:

Being able to do whatever you want at college is an awesome thing. However, break left you getting used to your mom doing your laundry, cooking, and making sure you handle your responsibilities again. Now it is all on you again, and you'll soon remember being an adult isn't as fun as it seems.

When you and you're bestie stay up late and do something stupid for the first time of the semester:

Being home over break lacked a lot of the freedoms you have when you're at school. Staying up late studying, going out, whatever it is, seems like a good plan at first but it won't take long for you to realize it wasn't a good idea.

When you realize winter has finally hit and you have to walk to class in the cold:

First semester was unusually warm even up to finals in December, now winter has finally hit Ohio. Negative temperatures and snow make walking to class miserable and you'll be bundled up inside your dorm room cranking the heat up.

When you're stressed out but you keep motivating yourself because you know this will all pay off eventually:

The new semester will bring a lot of stress as you try to get back into a routine and figure out your new classes. You'll need a lot of motivation and the best of it will come of it from yourself.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
