At Methodist University, there is a tradition among the students of going into town and celebrating at local bars and other hangouts. However, this past Wednesday, Methodist University's Student Activities Committee (SAC) managed to grab the students' attention by holding it's first event of the semester: The Welcome Back Water Bash!
The Welcome Back Water Bash consisted of an inflatable water slide over 10 feet high with a watery obstacle course and the Foam Pit close by. The Foam Pit was an open pit roughly 15 feet by 15 feet that had a floor completely covered in water and bubbles everywhere. In front of the Foam Pit was SAC's table where free t-shirts were handed out to every student who attended. Each t-shirt carries the name of the beloved organization and the schedule of future events planned for remainder of the semester. Beside the SAC table, music played from the outdoor speakers so every song could be heard no matter where you were. Away from the wet side of the basketball court, Pelican's Snoballs held a stand and passed out free New Orleans-style shaved ice with numerous available flavors including classics like "Pineapple" and "Grape," and originals such as "Birthday Cake" and "Sour Tsunami." Besides providing the inflatables and setting each one up, Your Event Source! (YES!) also ran a stand where students could create their own street sign for free.
From the time the Water Bash began, there was no stopping the energetic atmosphere that spread from person to person. Friends gathered together and cheered on their fellow students who raced through the slippery obstacle course. Sorority sisters took selfies and group pictures while playing in the bubbles. For the new students, it was definitely an experience that they would never forget. It was clear by the end of the night that the Student Activities Committee had thrown another successful event to kick off the semester.
From the extraordinary impression SAC left on those who attended Wednesday night, many of it's members are hopeful for new additions to their close-knit organization. President Taylor Owens made it clear that any and all students interested in joining were welcome to attend next week's meeting and that current members are invited to bring a friend as well.
