The final step to becoming a real adult is getting a job. Whether it be a poorly-paid internship, entry-level position, or a job that you definitely did not go to school for, you're at least still getting a paycheck, right?
You walk in fully confident, prepared by four (or five or eight) years of college.
But in reality, you actually have little to no real-world experience and have to learn everything.
Which means making a few mistakes.
And a lot of improvisation.
When somebody asks if you need help, you ego doesn’t allow assistance so you lie and say you’ve got everything handled.
However, it’s pretty obvious to everybody in the office that you’re incompetent, so they give you the easy jobs like answering the phone. And you still manage to mess that up.
Lunch hour finally arrives and you go to eat your delicious food, which is the one good thing that could come from this day. And it’s missing.
You have your first meeting, which is actually a lot less interesting than you imagined it would be.
The 3:00 p.m. slump hits and you now fully understand that addiction to coffee is quite possibly a real thing.
Being completely overwhelmed and feeling like a complete failure, you run to your car once you clock out.
Once you get home, you drown your sorrows in alcohol and Easy Mac.
But then you get your first paycheck and it makes everything a little better.
Because when you really think about it, nobody knows what the heck they’re doing.
