Every kid has their own fantasy career such as flying into space with NASA or saving the lives of hundreds as a firefighter. Overtime those dreams and ambitions are hindered due to pressures from school, family or even friends and those ideas become the backdrop. It is a hard reality for me to stomach but I have tried to keep it alive by writing everyday. Screenwriting has been the pinnacle of my ambitions since I could remember and by writing everyday I believe it may someday become a reality. This week I wanted to share some of the beginning of a script of mine because I feel as if criticism is much more powerful than if it is just coming from the mirror. Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you AutoPilot.

ESTABLISHING SHOT OF SCHOOL – 150 PM

Long day of school nears to its end at 150 PM. JOSH stares at the clock following the small twitches of the minute hand as it reaches its intended mark.

JOSH is a high school junior who has aspirations of a better future but seems to always be filled with a depressing ambition of failure. Still growing, JOSH wears sweatshirts and jeans everyday to hide his insecurities behind a shield of clothes. He has a few friends but none of them know what he really thinks about and what he desires in life. It seems that JOSH has been stuck in autopilot for his entire life and cannot find the outlet where his dreams can become a reality.

MEDIUM SHOT OF FRONT STEPS OF SCHOOL:

Bell rings, after a few seconds the doors bust open and the junior high students rush out into the sunny day nearing summer. JOSH is spotted walking out of the side door, as he always does, and finds the bus he and many other kids are assigned too. He does not get on.

...

A short introduction into what I think is a coming-of-age film that I have not yet full thought of. However I believe this screen writ will teach me a lot about myself and how things can change drastically just based on the small changes we make in our lives. The cliche quote about life being "the little things" that matter are extremely important in my mind whether it be interactions with others or an epiphany that one comes to over a cup of coffee in the morning.

I tend to write for Odyssey with articles that are very basic rather than talking about topics with a steam value too high. The reason being is because I think a lot of those types articles are looking for up votes or page shares instead of being heartfelt and with the intention of giving some insight onto your own personality. This article is me. It is my hope and aspiration to do this for a living and I hope for many opinions whether good or bad to give me a good baseline of where to start!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
