The Essence Of Summertime!

As we enter July, the most eventful month of the summer, it's really simple to get lost in the spirit of summer! I guess it's safe to say summer has its own agenda. Summer isn't just about the extreme heats or cute swimming suits. Summer is most people's favorite season because the weather allows them to live spontaneously. Summer is a time where living fearlessly is tangible! There is a list of essential instruments that creates the true essence of what summer really means.

1. Summer Love

Whether you're married, in a short term or long term relationship, or even a long distance relationship, you tend to have more fun with the one you love during the summer time. It's all about spending time with someone who makes your world spin.

2. Summer Vibes

During the summer, attitudes change which makes for better vibes. People begin to come together collectively and their spirits are happier. People start to look forward to beach trips, camping trips and time with their friends. Summer always seems to bring out the best vibes in people.

3. Summer Goals

People make goals that they want to achieve that they usually wouldn't do any other time of the year. Girls want perfect fun and the body to compliment it.

4. Summer School

For some college kids like myself, the break is half spent sitting in classrooms with fast pace learning and tougher tests. Summer school is a great way to meet new friends and build greater relationships with professors, due to the smaller classroom setting.

5. Summer Vacations

Family vacations are basically self explanatory, full of love and fun!

6. Summer Adventures

During the summer, people are much more open to adventure. Summer allows for spur of the moment meaningless road trips that usually turn into great stories, swimming in creeks and lakes, going paint balling, amusement parks and water parks, bonfires, and beaches. So much free time brings so many opportunities to live freely.

7. Summer Drama

The weather is hot! People are going to get aggravated by this, and will TRY to take their frustrations out on you. Some times, there's just no avoiding drama. But who cares? More stories for those road trips I discussed earlier.

8. Summer Music

Music is one of the most important elements of summer time. Finding the perfect song to a road trip or a humid morning jog is crucial. As years go on, you will always remember the songs from Summer's past.

9. Summer Books

Books are so essential to summer. Being out of school, it's easier for us to waste 3 months worth of brain cells, so finding good books to read poolside, like Before the Fall by Hawley, or Big Small Girls by Rachel DeWoskin are essential to summer time!

10. Summer Festivals

For most college students, we look forward to music concerts and summer festivals! Throughout the country, there are hundreds of festivals that go on whether its arts festivals, music festivals, theatre festivals, dance festivals, and even food festivals! Perfect weather, perfect celebrations and perfect times!

Never pass up an opportunity to go with friends. When life goes on and we all "grow up," we won't have these times anymore. So cherish it while you can and never turn down opportunities. Memories last a life time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
