There’s something about Spring that makes you feel so happy. After living in the dormant cold of Winter for so long, it’s always nice to have those first few days of warm weather and to watch everything come to life, experiencing the wonderful change that is Spring. This time of year is when everything starts to change. The weather is pretty bipolar now so it can go from being extremely cold one day, to being sunny and warm the next. I’d say we’ve had some pretty consistent beautiful days though, so it’s safe to say that the Spring season is upon us, and it feels wonderful. Your energy and your mood begin to change along with the weather and the environment. It’s a sudden shift, like a giant tsunami coming across the ocean!

One thing that makes me feel so good about Spring is the anticipation of it. I’m always in high spirits around this time of year because after having cold weather for so long, I look forward to finally having warm weather. I’m constantly checking the weather forecast, hoping that these beautiful days we’ve been having, last. I love the feeling of walking outside and seeing everything start to turn green. Spots that were once covered with snow are replaced with little green sprouts where flowers are starting to pop through. I can finally bring out my summer wardrobe, and I don’t have to put on layers of clothes before I walk outside because the warmth of the sun is just enough.

One thing I notice about myself when Spring rolls around is a shift in my mood. Instead of feeling like I just want to stay inside, out of the cold and in the warmth of my bed, I want to do everything and go everywhere. It’s finally warm enough for me to take refreshing nature walks and hikes, and I finally have the motivation to do so. During the Winter, I feel lazy because of the weather and the atmosphere, and I’m not in the mood to do much of anything. However, when Spring is finally here, I feel a burst of energy and I realize all the things I can do now that I couldn’t do when it was cold out. Not only do I feel more energetic, but I also feel more relaxed. It’s April so I know the end of the second semester is right around the corner, which means school is so close to being done. It’s at this time of year when I feel a sort of weight being lifted off my shoulders, knowing that I’m almost done with school and that those moments when I can relax on the beach, soaking up the summer sun, are soon to follow.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
