As the last weeks of the semester end and finals get closer and closer, it's hard to believe that for us freshmen, our first semester is almost over. Doesn't it feel like yesterday we were saying goodbye to our parents as they left us with a dorm room full of boxes and a roommate we probably didn't know? As it may be for you, it's absolutely crazy to think that I've been in college for fourteen weeks. What exactly did we do in those fourteen weeks?
Maybe you loved your classes and built some great relationships with your professors. Maybe you dreaded your alarm clock going off every morning for that 8 AM you could never stay awake for.
Maybe you spent the first two weeks really upset about being away from home for the first time and missing all of your friends. Maybe you got so involved in those first two weeks that you didn't even have time to think about home.
Maybe you were one of the fortunate ones who absolutely love your school's dining services. Maybe you found out that a person can get sick of Taco Tuesday every week.
Maybe you partied every weekend and still can't get enough of it. Maybe you spent every weekend in your dorm room with your friends and a good movie. Maybe you went home because you realized that you were way more homesick than you ever expected to be.
Maybe you found an awesome group of friends that you know is going to be your crew for the next four years. Maybe you've made a friend or two, and you're still finding it hard to form relationships.
Maybe you found some amazing shows to watch on Netflix. Maybe you've been so busy that Netflix hasn't even crossed your mind since August.
Maybe you feel like you've finally found your place and you have a great idea of what you want to do with the rest of your life. Maybe you feel more lost than ever.
Your first semester could have gone in any direction. Fortunately for me, I was lucky enough to make some great friends and participate in a lot of awesome activities through my school (free trip to the Brooklyn Bridge and Fiddler on the Roof, anyone?). Despite these positive aspects, I did miss home a lot more than I ever expected and I did have nights spent trying not to bang my head against the wall while writing my seminar papers. In the end, I am excited to continue on with my collegiate journey and I hope the same goes for you!
