The 10 Things Every College Kid Feels When Leaving For School

The last couple of weeks at home will be tough. You’ll start to appreciate the little things that you often took for granted and you’ll have mixed emotions. Here's what to expect from the end of summer.

1. Your last week gets booked out with hangouts of your friend

You meet multiple friends for multiple last-goodbye hangouts before you all depart and move to different countries. You schedule one meet-up after another and it doesn't stop

2. You visit your favorite spots for the last time

You walk the old path you used to take to school, stroll around the neighborhood, and go to the same cafe you used to go every Friday with your friends to revisit the good memories.

3. You text your friends about the times you've had

Before you go step on the plane, you text your friends something sentimental about how important they are to you, how you're going to miss them, and how you wish them luck in the future. You also believe this is the most sentimental you have ever been.

4. You look up ways to decorate your room on Pinterest and print out pictures of your friends to display.

5. Your parents start to be stricter with curfews

Your mom used to have no problem with you coming home at midnight and didn't bother asking where you'd been. But now every time you are out after 7, she calls you and demands to know your whereabouts.

6. You try to eat all kinds of food you won’t have again for a long time

Nothing will be as delicious as your home cooked meals or the local food and street food you always snack on in your town.

7. You procrastinate packing

Yes. You procrastinate by hanging out way too much (#1), watching television shows, complaining about how busy your summer job is, sleeping, and maybe doing your summer reading.

8. You frantically go over your packing list and see what you've missed and need to get

'

And when you've decided to pack.. You end up packing everything from home at one point.

9. You sit and stare at your room at random moments

Another way to procrastinate, but also to recall the old memories of friends coming over and nights/mornings of last minute cramming.

10. And saying goodbyes can be difficult

You don't know the right thing to say after seeing someone. And that's alright. They understand, and it doesn't matter. You are all going to college and you are ready to start the next exciting chapter of your life!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
