Survival Guide For The Semester's End

For most in college, it’s that time of year where we have reached the end of the semester. You can feel summer approaching and the nice weather is very misleading to your mind. Having your shade open while you’re studying is only making it harder to focus. Dreams of summer and all the great times are increasing. All you can think about is the last day of classes and how awesome “Fun Day”- the celebration of the end of the semester, is going to be.

Then you get to class on Monday and your professors pass out their last attempts to get you to focus on class. All of your courses final assignments are due in the same week and you struggle to remember why you enjoyed the class and why you loved your professor so much.

But wait! Think about it- there’s only seven days of classes left. So within seven days all of that work will be done. Until, of course, finals week approaches and everyone at college goes into their personally defined state of losing their mind.

So, if there were ever a time to go over survival tips for the next few days, it's now.

1. Make a schedule for the next couple weeks.

Plan it out whether it be on the notes, calendar, reminders apps on your phone or on paper or on Word. Figure it out. If you have all your assignments and study periods planned out accordingly, you will have a better sense of how you need to spread out your time throughout the next few weeks.

2. Finished? Good, now meet your self-created deadlines.

Once you’ve created deadlines for yourself, try your best not to fall behind. That will only create more stress for yourself. Try to squeeze in some exercise! And remember to reward yourself after each deadline is met.

3. Just get through this week day by day.

Don’t play too far ahead in the schedule. Take it day by day. Don’t try to do too much in one day, you’ll just stress yourself out and you probably won’t get as much as you originally hoped for done. Respect your mind, give yourself breaks.

4. Make time for your friends.

Do remember to have fun! It’s so important to make sure you are still prioritizing your social life. Not above academics, but it is crucial for your sanity to have some time outside the classroom and separate from your books. It is just impossible to give academics 100% of your time. If we all did that, we’d lose our minds and our work would never be A material. It’s so nice outside, at least sit on a blanket outside with some friends while you all bond over trying to meet your crazy amount of deadlines.

5. Finish the last day of classes on a positive note.

Once you’ve neared the end of the week, there’s only one thing left: the last day of classes. There’s just one more day! That’s it! Knowing that will get you through the ridiculous amount of work you have. Again, don’t get too stressed. Grades are extremely important, but they aren’t life or death. Just breath and enjoy the last week of the academic year. Be positive and work hard, everything will fall into place.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
