Chapter 1: The end is just the beginning

Part. 2

’Ben came home drunk and Cierra had just left for the grocery store. She was going to get food for dinner. He was on the phone looking at him from over my book he looked mad. Benjamin snapped his phone shut in anger; feeling brave I said "Hey Ben". He turned to me and stared in amazement as I sat on the couch reading.

"Rayne where’s Cierra and why isn't dinner done" he asked trying to be calm. I could see the anger in his voice just rolling off of him in red waves, tinged black with every word he had spoken.

"She went to get dinner… she’s at the store."

Ben looked pissed even before I had finished saying anything. He grabbed my arm roughly "Rayne what the hell. She should have dinner done already not be out getting it just to start when she gets back" Ben said raising his voice tightening his grip on my arm even harder. I whimpered, scared trying to get my arm free but he just gripped my arm tighter as silent tears escaped my eyes.

The door busted open and Cierra, my hero of the day, stood frozen in fear. "Ben what are you doing? Stop it! Let Rayne go this instant! Damn it Benjamin you’re hurting her" she screeched at him her voice raising in anger. I looked into her face and I saw a lot of anger and shock. Ben blinking back in surprise, looked down at the hold on my arm, and let go, stepping back. He gasped as he got a look at the now visible horrible, red handprint on my arm. My arm was throbbing slightly and swelling already where the red handprint stood out on my kind of tan skin. "Oh my god Rayne. I'm so sorry" Benjamin said, looking at my arm in horror.'

I gazed at the mirror shaking my head to get the memory out as I touched the wall behind me. Looking around the room I saw everything still in place. Sighing to myself I walked to the dresser getting clean undergarments and bed clothes. Hurrying to put them on I almost fell in place. Climbing back in bed once I was done getting dressed. I feel asleep as my head hit the pillow.

"Rayne get up" Cierra said.

"Mm five more minutes please?"

"Get your lazy butt out of bed now."

I looked up at her and grimaced as my right arm started throbbing in pain. Cierra gasped and I winched as my arm came into view from under the covers."Oh Rayne I am so sorry. I didn't think Ben would come home or ever think of hurting you" Cierra said regretfully.

"Cierra I'll live ok I promise will you just please call me in sick today so I have the weekend to try and move my arm without it hurting every time I try to do something. The school will be bound to find out if I go today."

"Yeah of course Rayne I don't know why I hadn't thought about the school finding out. Well do you want anything? The pain I mean."

"No thank you though for asking. I am just really tired."

"Rayne you were up at 3 A.M. weren't you" my sister more said than asked. I looked at her and her normally smooth face was turned up in concern.

"I was taking a shower" I whispered.

"Yeah I figured that well I'm going to go so you can sleep. Rayne sleep well and if you need anything call me on your cell. I'll be home as soon as I can; I have to work today" Cierra said hugging me lightly then walking out of my room closing my door behind her. As I laid back down I was out before my head even hit the pillow. I was in a dreamless somewhat peaceful sleep.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
