Midnight Madness signals the beginning of the college basketball season. Like the name implies, the party starts at midnight. Fans gather in the team's arena and party together to celebrate the kickoff of the season. The men's and women's basketball teams are introduced to the fans and after they are introduced, famous program alumni show up to hang out a little with the teams. Here at Grand Canyon University, basketball season is like football season at any other major university and Midnight Madness means that our wait for basketball season is almost over.

1. Waking up in the morning.

When you go to a basketball school, this is the day you wait for all year because it means basketball season has finally arrived.

2. Then realizing you still have to go to class.

If there was ever a day where there was no motivation to go to class, this would most likely be the day.

3. When you look at your phone and it's only 5 o'clock.

You mean to tell me that we still have another seven hours until it starts. Who thought of this genius idea of starting at midnight?

4. When you realize you should be getting in line 3 hours early.

FRESHMAN! THIS IS NOT A JOKE! if you want any kind of good seat at Midnight Madness, it means showing up super early to get in line and waiting around for hours. However, if you truly love Grand Canyon basketball, you find a way to justify it to yourself.

5. Hour 2 of waiting in line.

COMMITMENT. It takes serious commitment to Grand Canyon basketball to wait in line for that long and yes, it is worth it.

6. When they let you get in front of the doors.

You feel that moment of euphoria that finally, after hours of waiting in line, you are finally moving somewhere...

7. But then you remember you're surrounded by your 5000+ closest friends like herded sheep.

You better not be claustrophobic and value your personal space because for the next hour you don't have it.

8. And then you have to stand there for an hour.

The second to last portion of waiting before Midnight Madness. Standing there right outside the arena, so close, but yet so far.

9. The doors finally open.

Ice cold air conditioning and cushioned seats await you inside, and it is a relief from the time for waiting in line.

10. When someone brings a bag with them.

Seriously, what made you think that was a good idea. You are holding up the entire line and causing everyone else to get a terrible seat. Thank you for being a jerk.

11. When you try to "walk run" to get a good seat.

Yes, security I know you want me to walk, but I'm trying to get a good seat and I don't want to lose the opportunity at a good seat because I was walking. Please let me move at my own pace, I promise I won't run someone over...maybe.

12. Midnight finally arrives.

Finally, the moment that I had been waiting for all day and year. Basketball season is finally here and it will be oh so glorious!

13. The madness ends.

The madness is over for this year, but the craziness has only just begun. The Havocs will definitely be ready to rock it this year!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
