The Elections That Divided A Nation

An entire nation became divided due to their reactions over a single election

Something happened. Something huge happened. America voted a new leader. Donald J. Trump became our president. From the elections where we were voting between two evils, we voted for President Trump. Immediately following the elections came an uproar of negativity on social media, opinions and chaos.

I have something to share with those who chose to participate in the negativity and hatred that broke out immediately following the elections.
My ladies- a presidential election doesn't make us any less of women! It doesn't define our limits, our abilities, and our boundaries. An election cannot divide us as a gender and support system. We will keep growing. We will keep succeeding. We will continue to show our power! To the other minorities that have been affected: Same goes for you. Stick to your beliefs, keep building your future and your successes will come from you!

To those of you who put others down in this time that we should've stuck together- I cannot respect those who've posted degrading statuses or statements regarding those who did not vote or voted for the opposing party. What really freaked me out was that the people who stood for love, equality and freedom during the elections, began putting people down for THEIR political beliefs and opinions- don't you think that is a bit contradicting? I saw so many statuses about "hillbillies" being the reason Trump was chosen as president and that they didn't want anything to do with anyone that didn't vote, voted for the 3rd party, or that voted for Trump. Isn't that considered discrimination? Isn't that a reason why people may feel divided after this historical night? Having hatred towards these people is a negative thing too.

Something that really scared me about these elections was the wave of doom that came over those who were against Trump. There is nothing worse for a nation than fear, and that all comes from within. Yes, there is a reason to fear when bad things happen. No, there is no reason to cause chaos due to uncertainty. We cannot allow uncertainty to control our mindsets or we will fall into a trap where we are deciding our own (negative) future.

All that being said, I don't like to get involved with politics, but I do like to speak about ideas and opinions. My heart goes out to everyone hurt by these elections and who are fearing for their futures. However, my heart will not tolerate the hatred that came from this crazy night. I always like to say that everything will be OK. You're alive, the sky is not falling, you have the freedom to feel and say what you want! Only you can hurt yourself. Spread love, spread equality and spread positivity. Let's keep this nation from dividing. Let us take this election and allow it to be a means of connectivity and pushing forward together for the future.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
