Does your childhood affect your entire life?
I saw this question on twitter and I thought I would shed some light on the topic. I think that your childhood is essential to the way you live your life in the future. From the rights and wrongs that you are taught to the food you like, to the way you live your actual life; habits, hobbies, and sports.
To say that your childhood doesn't affect your entire life is like saying that Burger King's fries are better than McDonald's, which is false. I grew up in a lovely household, one with many privileges that I am grateful for having. For example, I grew up with married parents, I had siblings who weren't that old from me, and I truly had and still have it all. I grew up in a Christian household, so no matter what I do in life, I still live by those ideals that were instilled in my mentality when I was a kid.
Since I am the baby of the family, I had things that others didn't which still affects my life. An example of that would be that I am lucky enough to have siblings to go to when I need them the most when other kids weren't lucky enough to do the same.
Being Mexican-American, I have acquired many things that I grew up listening to or practicing. Like when I get older and have a family of my own, I will also throw my kid's birthday parties that include a piñata, and candy bags, and a cake we can all smush their head into, nicely of course. I will also teach them how to speak Spanish, and make them believe all the superstitious things that my mom and grandma made me believe.
Everything you do as a kid, though everyone is bound to change and evolve, our childhood and everything that we remember about it will always be ours to have. And we can do whatever we want those privileges.
