Interested in some food that will take you to heaven and keep you there? Well, you should try little ol’ Grand Junction, Colorado’s Dream Café located on Main Street, fixed between several boutiques. Now, I’m no rookie to Dream Café. I have had my fair share of just about everything on the menu and let me tell you, breakfast at the Dream Café will put you in a state of uncontrollable excitement from the moment you open the doors.
If have never eaten at Dream Café before, that is fine, but after reading this, I guarantee you will find your way. Upon your first examination of the menu, your eyes are immediately pulled to something, even if it's something you typically wouldn’t go for. There is no need to say, “I need a few more minutes to look over the menu,” to the waitress because you’ll have already become soul mates with an entree on the menu.
I remember the first thing that drew my eye when first visiting the Dream Café: Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes. Just underneath it read, “Fresh chunks of caramelized pineapple with homemade vanilla crème anglaise, caramel & cinnamon butter.” After that description the deal was sealed. When the food was ready, the waitress set my plate in front of me and suddenly I began to hear church bells ring and angels sing. Presented to me was two perfectly round pancakes covered in all the assured ingredients. The homey smell of frying cinnamon butter allured my nostrils in forcing my tongue to salivate like a dog.
As I took my first bite into the perfectly textured pancakes, the gourmand in me began to dance as if every bite was the beat to a song. The first flavor unfolded onto my tongue, vanilla crème anglaise paired effortlessly with decadent caramel, surfacing every inch of my taste buds. The sweet, juices of pineapple complemented the warmth of the pancake. Without a doubt that was the cherry on top, or should I say, the pineapple on top.
Don’t worry, if pineapple upside down pancakes aren’t your thing, there are several other unique breakfast items that will have you floating on cloud nine. It’s huge and it’s made daily, yet it really needs to introduction. Cinnamon rolls at Dream Café are sticky, sugary, and sinfully delightful. I won’t even say how long these last at a table of four, or even two—or one. The biscuits and gravy put a whole new twist to Grandma’s traditional recipe. House baked biscuits that very much resemble clouds topped with pork sausage and the cheddar gravy congruent with your choice of eggs and Dream Potatoes, also known as hash browns that absolutely defy what it means to be hash browns.
If you're in the mood for some morning Benedict, fear no more because Dream Café has three versions that satisfy several different belly types. California Dreamin' Bene for those veggie lovers is topped with fresh, roasted peppers, avocado, asparagus and of course, poached eggs with decadent Dreamy Hollandaise drizzled on top. Then there is your Crab Cake Bene for those who can't resist a good seafood meal. You got your house made crab cakes topped with poached eggs and zesty Lemon Hallandaise. Last, but certainly not least, Dream Bene for those traditional Benedict lovers out there. English Muffin, shaved ham, poached eggs, and Dreamy Hollandaise. I am getting hungry, shall I continue?
Needless to say, the Dream Café demonstrates what it means to have a great breakfast. Aside from the incredible food is incredible costumer service, where every customer is top priority to the staff, and a pleasant yet modern venue that totally exemplifies the dreamy look. I can’t not rave about this place, but I also can’t write a thousand-page review on how amazing everything. It would just make a lot more sense to go try it out for yourself. Dream Café is always dreaming of new ways to make their customers happy, and this is proven to me because I am always leaving happier than last time. Like they always say at the Dream Café, "Relax; kick back, and do a little day dreaming," while dining on Cloud Nine, literally.
