The Downfall of Summer --Boredom

Although summer is nice, relaxing and napping, some days are just not that fun and cause you to be very, very bored.

The Downfall of Summer --Boredom

2 weeks ago I left college and came home for the summer. Leaving behind lots of memories and great people who live hours away. Summer sixteen was here, and was what I thought would be pretty eventful. Having something to do everyday with friends I haven't seen in months, spending a few days a week at my internship, heading to the beach and going to the gym. Which yeah, I did all that in the first 5 days of break going to different things around Buffalo, but now I've officially hit the boredom stage of summer vacation. So now I just sit and wait, and hope someone comes up with an idea that will allow me to break the boredom.

Don't get my wrong, I love summer and all the relaxing and unlimited naps that it offers but, unless you have a vacation planned, some days are just going to be super super boring (even a nap can't make certain days better). Like if the weathers bad and you don't want to spend money, it looks like you'll be stuck inside watching Netflix and napping. You could clean, but you might have to be REALLY bored for that one to happen. These past 14 days have been eventful, going from park to park, walking the trails, laying out at the beach, going out to eat, starting my internship, catching up with old friends but slowly I can see these random adventures die down and turning into me napping all-day.

Seriously, everyone has a life, and different responsibilities on a day-to-day basis so everyday can't be a random trip to Niagara Falls or downtown Buffalo to look at the scenery. But in-between friends having jobs, and other family vacations, or obligations, or work for yourself, or maybe an internship you must complete, kind of forces you to look elsewhere for some fun since not everyone is free at the same time. Therefore, you might have to ask your brothers to hangout... As a last resort, of course. Or sitting on your laptop refreshing Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram while re-watching Grey's Anatomy for the 6th time, but who's counting...

(How can you not re-watch it with a face like that to look at...)

Although I would love to be on summer vacation all the time, and not have to worry about the stresses of school and waking up early, but boredom is a terrible thing. Which is making me wish it was time to go back to Keuka already, with all the great people I met, but we still have two months. So it looks like I'm going to have to be really creative these next 2 months and go out of my comfort zone to break the boredom and try to have the best summer yet. So here's to making summer '16 a little less boring.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
