With the sun shining and the weather going from cool to sweltering, it is natural for hordes of people of all ages to go to the beach for some much-needed relaxation. Unfortunately, with the excitement of school ending and responsibilities halting, people often forget how to be polite while enjoying our wonderful beaches. Have no fear! I’m here to teach you the do’s and don’ts of proper beach etiquette.
1. Don't sit right on top of other people.
Nothing is worse than having your perfect beach campsite violated by a family of nine with three wagons full of beach toys and a dog in tow.
2. Do spread out accordingly when you first arrive.
If you desire a hefty amount of sand to support your various towels, chairs, etc., definitely arrive early to secure the prime amount of space for your many belongings.
3. Don't leave your trash everywhere.
No one wants to see your half-eaten chicken sandwich rotting in the beating sun, hours after you deserted it.
4. Do make sure your umbrella is firmly planted in the sand.
I know it’s hard to make sure of this, especially on windy days, but please make sure your umbrella is secure before you lounge under it.
5. Don't get annoyed at the little kids having fun in the sun.
The beach is arguably the most fun when you’re young and still believe you're actually helping the seagulls by pelting small pieces of your hot dog at them. I agree that some kids on the beach can be a little frustrating, but don’t ruin their fun just because you’d rather sit quietly and read.
6. Do respect other people’s privacy.
Everyone’s there for the same reason: to relax! Don’t ruin it by invading other people’s privacy.
