Home alone at last! For those of you who live with family, roommates or a significant other, you know that sometimes life seems to be a bit hectic with the extra company. However, when the time comes when you find that you are home alone, life suddenly seems different. You have more freedom but you also notice that are some things one shouldn't do when home alone. Here are some of the do's and don't's of being home alone.

1. Do: Make sure you have a number to contact your family, roommates or significant other in case of emergencies. Staying in contact is always important.

Don't: Seem to eager to get them out of the house. You wouldn't want to offend them, would you?

2. Do: Be sure to lock all the doors before you leave the house. You can never be too careful!

Don't: Lock yourself out of the house. There will be no one there to let you in (don't be the person to make a rookie mistake).

3. Do: Keep some cash available in case of emergencies.

Don't: Blow all your money on food, drinking and partying (budget your money). Also, a word for the wise, make sure you do not spend all your money on the first night alone.

4. Do: Keep the house nice and clean. You don't want your family, roommates or significant other to think you are a pig.

Don't: Leave the cleaning of the house for the last minute. You will regret it.

5. Do: Remember to call your family, roommates or significant other just to let them know you can survive on your own.

Don't: Call them every five minutes to check in or ask for help (you're a grownup now, act like it).

6. Do: Remember to feed the dog (or any pet you have). They are depending on you.

Don't: Forget to feed the dog. Just don't do it.

7. Do: Feel free to sleep with a night light on, it can be scary if it is your first time being home alone.

Don't: Watch a scary movie right before you go to bed. You will thank me later.

8. Do: Make sure that if you are a driving a car that is not yours to refill the gas tank before your family, roommates or significant other comes back.

Don't: Damage the car (again, don't be that person).

9. Do: Enjoy your alone time. Go for a walk, read a book, binge watch a new show. Do what makes you happy.

Don't: Constantly wonder about what your family, roommates, or significant other are doing. They are allowed to have a vacation too.

10. DO: Take time to appreciate your family, roommates or significant other. While they make life a little hectic, they also make your life wonderful.

Don't: Take them for granted; simple as that.

11. Do: When they come home, feel free to hug them and welcome them back.

Don't: Beg them never to go away again. At least, not right away.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
