The presidential election for America is taking place here tomorrow, November 8th. What does that mean for us? Well, regardless of who you support and who you vote for, there seem to be numerous claims about what is going to happen. Trump could win and people will cry. Hilary could win and people will cry. A third party candidate could win and we would all collectively be shocked. It all depends on what side of the fence you are on. Regardless of what could and will happen when a new president gets welcome into the oval office, there are a few things that will definitely NOT happen.
First, there won't be some magical tidal shift in the power that our president can suddenly wield. Many people are concern that if Trump gets the presidency, he will be too close to the "nuke button." Sorry to say, but the president doesn't have singular access to the "button." The president cannot simply just decide to nuke a country on a bad day. There are fail safes in place. In fact, there are many stories of how a third world war, a nuclear war, has been avoided because there hasn't been a singular person with the overriding ability to launch them.
Second, there won't be a mad-dash of bills being written into law the day of or a few days after the new president takes office. Look at literally every political campaign, big or small, and see how many promises are kept that are proposed. Yes, the president has extreme political clout, as he or she should, but not everything they wish up can be put into effect. The other branches of our government can help and hinder as it pleases them. We have a representative democracy for a reason.
Last, the world is not going to end. The beautiful machine that is America will not cease to function. People thought Obama, on the first run through, was going to break America, and numerous other presidents before hand. Whatever we sweep into office, whatever becomes our international spokesperson, per say, America will endure. The individual in American has more voice than they think they do.
So get out there and vote. Inform yourself a little bit. A simple google search will tell you where the nearest location is for you to vote, and what you need. Make a difference in the 2016 election.
