The Different Types Of Love We Have Been Introduced To

"I love you" may be one of the hardest words to say to one before they have said it to you.

But Why? Why do we allow this three letter word to have so much power and meaning?

Throughout our lifespan, we have shown love to our parents and said "I love you" to them because they have helped shaped us into the person we are today. However, as you get older you are no longer just showing love to your parents. You are now showing love to things which you are passionate about.

As we have grown up seeing love through our parent's relationships, novels, and Disney films which we have cried over, we have been introduced to different types of love that you probably haven't even realized. There are six types of love so the Greek's say,

1. Ethos- the romantic love.

2. Philia- the friendship love.

3. Ludus- the playful love.

4. Agape- the selfless love.

5. Pragma- the longstanding love.

6. Philautia- the love of one's self.

These six types of love have been demonstrated throughout several different Disney films and help provide us an inside on the type of love we hope one day to find or be capable of having within ourselves.

1. Ethos, the romantic relationship between Mickey and Minnie are something people of all ages know these two characters by.

2. Philia, The friendship that Donkey and Shrek have throughout each Shrek movie is something that one wishes to have. A loyal and crazy friend always willing to try new things.

3. Ludus, the playful love. Ariel and Flounder are always playing around and simply enjoying their life under the sea.

4. Agape, the selfless love. Anna saved Elsa by throwing herself in front of her.

5. Pragma, The longstanding love. Carl refuses to let go of his house where he and his wife's lived throughout their life span. After his wife's passing, he feels some sort of connection between the house and his wife and doesn't want to lose that since she is no longer living.

6. Philautia, The love of ones self. Aladdin accepting himself and realizing he can be loved for who he is.

These six different types of love are what make a healthy relationship. Of course, relationships are something to be taken seriously but there comes a time when it's nice to just take a step back and simply just enjoy and live in the moment. After all, time with one is an unpredictable element.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
