Forget about appetizers and the entrée, the Dessert is the best part of any meal. Here’s eight of New York City’s top desserts and spots.
1. Cookie Shots at Dominique Ansel Bakery
The cronut is already a household, but there are still lots of reasons to drop by Dominique Ansel's Soho bakery. His cookie shots are served starting at 3 p.m. The ooey-gooey cookie cup is coated in chocolate to make it water-tight, then filled with a shot of vanilla-infused milk. It's a different enjoyable take on a truly classic dessert.
2. Coconut Cake at Miss Lily’s
This Jamaican inspired place offers a selection of especially delicious sweets. Their coconut cake is the standout of the dessert tray. This crunchy coconut cake is moist and topped with white frosting and toasted coconut bits — a.k.a. a must try.
3. S’mores at Marc Forgione
This campfire snack is something that reminds everybody of fun. The s'mores at Tribeca's Marc Forgione is a fancy take on a traditional snack. It's an amazing dish, but doesn't sacrifice the authenticity of what it was: Crunchy graham cracker, gooey toasted marshmallows, and melty-chocolate are all shown in this dish.
4. Local apple pie at Bubby’s
The Big Apple is known for a lot of things, but not it’s apple pie. Unless you try the pie from Buddy’s. It’s a slice crunchy pie that is spiced with cinnamon, cloves, lemon zest, and has a double crust. This dish is a homemade piece that represents the locals of New York City.
5. Chocolate Badka at Breads Bakery
This Badka desert can make you feel like you’re going around the world, but you’re really staying at Union Square bakery. This treat is delectable with its flaky top. Soft, doughy brioche insides, and chocolate (mixed with Nutella). It might just be the best Babka in New York City or the world as the locals say.
6. Oversized cookies at Levain Bakery
First things first, they're huge. They come in flavors like chocolate chip walnut and dark chocolate peanut butter chip. This dessert is so popular that there is always a line to get one, but the wait is definitely worth it to get one of these.
7. Gelato on a stick at Popbar
This West Village shop has just something so fresh and delicious about their ice pops. Maybe it's the natural ingredients; maybe it's the crazy mix of customizable flavors and toppings. As the people that eat them say, even when it’s zero degrees out, there still just so good.
8. Banana split at Empire Diner
This spectacle sundae is not your typical banana split. A caramelized banana combined with three over-the-top scoops of ice cream, topped with walnuts, chocolate fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. This classic dessert has been modernized and became a one of a kind treat that you have to try when you’re in the city.
