In every competition, whether it is E-sports, The Olympics, Business competition, Sports, or even War, in order to be successful, every contender must exhibit the desire to win. It is this desire to win that must be translated into determination and performance. This determination to win would translate into perseverance and hard work, which is why many players devote time, effort, and even money to achieve such a goal of winning. People often say winning isn’t everything, but when it comes to competition and sportsmanship winning is everything! Without the desire to win to some degree, it’s near impossible for one to achieve the highest “medal” attainable, assuming that the competition is fierce. It is the desire to win, that allows competitors to beat all odds and overcome obstacles despite temporary defeat. This desire to win often inspires and initiates perseverance through adversity in any competition. This desire to win, the true spirit of competition, is what one needs in any competition.

In a competitive environment, a person's needs to have the desire to win by being attuned to the competition around them. Being aware of the surrounding competition helps to amplify one's desire to win! One could say that the fierceness of the competition often directly impacts how much one really wants to win, which could push them to new heights in progression! This awareness of the competition around oneself would allow one to grow their desire of winning and thus allow one to set realistic goals towards the ultimate goal of winning a competition. One must also account for whether or not they want to win in the long-term or short-term. In order for one to win when the competition is fierce, one must exhibit a desire to win greater than that of other competitors. Whoever wants to win the most, WILL win! Willpower is such a strong force when it comes to winning.

The desire to win goes hand-in-hand with willpower. Willpower is the desire to overcome adversity and beat all obstacles. Willpower inspires perseverance and initiates progression in a competitor's skill which can be emphasized through a competitor's willingness to go through intense training so that one day he or she may bring home the "gold medal." And striving to bring home the gold is a physical embodiment of the desire to win. In a fierce and real competition, players play mainly to WIN, not just for amusement. It is by having a strong desire to win that players can use willpower to focus heavily on the main objective of the game and work on constantly perfecting skill, reaction time, and even mental stamina. The desire to win is a powerful driving force if applied in a healthy and purposeful way, thus driving healthy competition in the process.

Playing to win is a great driving force as long as it inspires HEALTHY competition and everyone follows the rules of the game. An unhealthy over-obsession of winning is cancerous when people start cheating and rigging the game when the desire to win overcomes them so much that they start playing unfairly. Such people should be disqualified from the competition to ensure fairness. It is imperative that competitors play with fairness and sportsmanship, so that the fundamental rules of the game, tournament, or competition are obeyed no matter what.

In a competition, if nobody had the desire to win, the competition event itself would be very boring and stale. It's the desire to win among players that makes competition exciting, energizing, and full of enthusiasm. No spectator wants to watch stale competition, because frankly, it would put them to sleep. And in E-Sports, the Olympics, or any other form of competition involving spectators, stale competition could negatively affect business ventures and partnerships because attendance would decrease to an all-time low due to lack of interest. Thus, the desire to win is the spirit of competition!

The spirit of competition is found through the desire to win! This drive to win is what makes E-Sports or other competitive events exciting. It is this excitement, known as hype that resonates in a heavily invested venture with lots of competition. To ensure the success of such events in the future, organizers and partners in charge of these ventures must provide incentives for participants to develop the desire to win! These could come in the form of tangible incentives like money, prizes, certificates, awards, medals, trophies, etc. These could also come in the form of intangible incentives such as recognition, fame, contracts, partnerships, and future opportunities. Harnessing the powerful force that is the desire to win both directly or indirectly is a wonderful thing for E-Sports or any competitive event that would yield prosperous results!

Thus it is appropriate to end on a quote by Arnold Palmer, the famous and highly skilled professional golfer:

"Winning isn't everything, but wanting it is!"

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
