There are many interpretations of what the Bible actually is. I suppose it depends on one’s point of view of its definition. I am going to let God write this piece. He will tell me what to write hence forth on what the Bible means and why it is important. I hope to do the best I can and let God say what He has to say. The truth: the Bible is many things.
The Bible is a manual on life as it should be lived. There is a place for every situation and their solutions in the Bible. For example, the book of Job explains the strength that can come from God when we go through troubled times. For those who don’t know about the book of Job, it is about a man who followed God but went through a lot of storms including losing his whole family. The devil told God that the only reason why Job followed God was because he was so blessed. As a result, Job was tested in his faith in God. In the end, God gave Job all that he had lost plus tenfold after these storms.
An instruction on what marriage should be is mentioned in the Bible as well; “And He (Jesus) answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh” (Matthew 19:4-6). These verses are Jesus’ way of saying that marriage is between a man and a woman, and when they are joined together they become one mind. There are too many instructions in the Bible to list in this article. These two were just the first set of instructions that came to mind that I had an impulse to list.
The Bible is also a letter of comfort from God. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4). This verse is a promise that He will never leave nor forsake us, even when we are treading dangerous ground. “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give ye rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-29). These four verses above are just a couple of the abundant amount of healing Jesus gives through the Holy Word.
Hope is another definition of the Bible. This world is a terrible place; it’s full of sadness, loss, evil, anger, and death. The Bible is a gift of hope from God, because it tells us of Jesus Christ who came down here on earth and died for our sins. “O death, where is thy sting? O grace, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:55-58).
Strength is the last distinct meaning of the Bible I will address. Throughout the Bible, it is mentioned how the impossible becomes possible with God. Philippians 4:13 states “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse does not say that I am limited, but I can do anything that is the will of God if I have faith in Him. This is a beautiful statement of how Great God is, because God is limitless.
The Holy Word is important because it came from the Great I Am. It would be foolish to ignore it. The Bible has survived so many centuries and is the most translated in various languages; this is because it is the Living Word. The Bible is not just a book. It is written text inspired by God. In fact, it is a written testimony for the lost to be found. It is a place for the found to spend time with Jesus. It is the greatest love story ever told.
The Bible is instruction, comfort, hope, and strength. There are many other things that the Holy Word is besides these four characteristics, but to list them all would take more than one lifetime. I pray that I have done God’s will in this piece. I also pray that this may serve as a witness to those who are without Jesus and are lost. Amen.
