With Nintendo's unsuccessful platform releases for the past few years since Xbox one and Playstation 4 jumped on the market, fans didn't know what to expect when Nintendo suddenly gave their new console, NX or Switch, the limelight. And yet, the balance of hate and love for Switch wavers between hardcore Nintendo followers and the general gaming community.
The first thing that caught everyone's was the integrated design that featured rectangular shaped removable controllers for playing both at home and on the go. While the design serves its multi-platform purpose, the Switch is still getting flak for the controller's "breadstick" design and how they are detached.
Fresh marinara anyone?
Woah. It's like magic.
But the amazing part of this concept is that each controller can work independently as their own controller, making two-player gaming instant without having to buy another controller. Along with a handheld screen that works as it's own mini tv, Switch is looking to be a versatile and condensed console that challenges the traditional stationary console.
Yet, with Nintendo working with several huge game developers like Unity and Bethesda--who showcased their game, "Skyrim" running smoothly on Switch during the trailer--and sporting a Nvidia Tegra graphics card, the Switch might have a chance in today's market unlike its predecessor, the Wii U. Nintendo also built up the excitement for Switch by showcasing their trailer for the newest installation of The Legend of Zelda series, Breath of the Wild, before the console's reveal.
Fans are still debating how Nintendo will deal with switching back to cartridges from disks. Between factors like loading time, durability, and user responsibility, the company will have to determine the price of their games. Fans argue that while cartridges are sturdier than disks, they cost more to manufacture. But fans are still excited about the old-school method making a comeback and perhaps this joke will be relevant again:
However you feel about the Switch, Nintendo still has more to tell us in the following months until its release in March 2017. Hopefully, we'll see a better console with a community of both Nintendo's mobile platform and other console gamers playing together.
