Can Matt Harvey rebound from his recent struggles? That is the question getting repeatedly asked, whether its too Harvey, Manager Terry Collins, a fellow teammate, or in the media itself. Thus far this season he has a complied a 3-6 W/L record to go along with a whopping 5.77 ERA. To give you a comparison, his career era is 2.86, so were talking almost three runs here. In his most recent outing, one in which I had the pleasure of attending, he was hit hard for nine runs (6 earned), on eight hits and two walks to go along with just two strikeouts. He was booed as he walked off the field, which was an unpleasant sight to say the least. This recent outing wasn’t all Matt’s fault, Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was unable to cleanly field a would be inning ending double play, Left Fielder Michael Conforto took a strange route to a hard hit fly ball that he was unable to catch despite his best efforts. Too put all the blame on Matt’s shoulders wouldn’t be right, but he needs to step it up if the Mets want to get back to the Playoffs, and their ultimate goal of winning the World Series.
Terry Collins has said that Matt Harvey will make his next scheduled start either Monday or Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. This will sure be a tough task that I for one believe Harvey is ready to step up too. With the New York Mets currently 2.5 games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East, this is the time for Harvey to turn around his season.
