Over the Thanksgiving weekend, The Danish Girl," opened up to audience and so far it has affected less, but affected deep and as the seconds go, more and more people are getting to know of this mere $15 million budget movie that narrates the life of Lili Elbe, one of the first "sex reassignment patients in record.
Director, Tom Hooper, who is known for his remarkable work in "Les Miserable" and "The King's Speech" comes out with his best work so far.
So far the world hasn't been exactly comfortable when it comes to talking about transgender rights. "There is more to worry about," is what many say and "The Danish Girl" tells us that the rights and the community is what we should actually be worried about when it comes to human rights.
Even today the process that is needed to undergo a sex change operation is overly complex, and to think that Lili Elbe went through that complexity in 1930's is what hits you right in the heart. Another message that the movie successfully portrays is that there is no choice when it comes to one's sexuality.
Eddie Redmayne gets into the skin of the character so well that there are moments when you too, feel the frustration of a woman who is trying to live in a man's body, trying to prove to the world how difficult it is to live like that.
Many and most of the people who have seen the movie have appreciated the performance of Eddie Redmayne and the work that Tom Hooper has put in behind the camera, but I personally believe that the maximum amount of work and hardship that anyone has put in has been by Alicia Vikander who plays Gerda Wegener. I say this because I see the emotional journey that the character has to go through from being a happily wedded wife of an artist, to a successful artist herself and finally being there to see the love of her life just not be there anymore, or at least be there in a rather different way. To basically see someone change completely right in front of her own eyes.
Every single supporting cast has done their job in the most perfect way possible and so has the crew. From costumes and set designs, to location scouting and even the makeup. The film appeals aesthetically to make you pay close attention to every tiny detail and not to mention the music acts as the cherry on this cake of excellent cinema.
If you have seen the movie, I can bet that you did surely find it to be an extraordinary cinema experience, if you are a movie buff that is. Otherwise I am also sure that you were definitely entertained. This is worth your time and money. For those who haven't seen and have absolutely any intention of seeing it, go of it. You wouldn't want to miss it.
