The Dakota Access Pipeline: A Battle For Water

A little light on DAPL.

The Dakota Access Pipeline: A Battle For Water
Marty Two Bulls

Hello,

I'm Native American.

I may only have a small percentage of Native blood in me, but that's enough.

While everyone is carrying on about the election, let me shed some light on what is happening in North Dakota.

The Dakota Access Pipeline is a 1,172 mile pipeline that would carry crude oil from North Dakota to the southern most parts of Illinois. This pipeline would cross the Standing Rock Sioux's source of water multiple times on their reservation. Mind you, a reservation is SACRED GROUND.

Anyhow.

The Ingenious People of North Dakota are protecting their water and started to protest. When I first followed the story, I heard that bulldozers went in and BULLDOZED THE BURIAL SITES. (SIDETRACKED): Now, if that was to happen to the Arlington Cemetery in the District of Columbia, Americans would have a hissy-fit. That is not the case. Every. Single. Thing. With Natives is swept under the rug.

For example, the number of Natives killed presently peaks at 110 million. The worst genocide in America, yet we only hear about the Holocaust. Granted, it was very inhuman and gut wrenching, but please do not leave us Native Americans out of history; we are there. We beg you to come ask us first.

Back on track: Shailene Woodley has stood with us about our water (THANK YOU). Water is the important to this world; if our waters are polluted, what are we humans going to do? It would wipe out our population.

The last I saw of this situation was that people on the reservation in North Dakota were live streaming, however the police, or government, had some technology that was interrupting the live video.

To those that have read this: 1. I am extremely sorry that I blew up about this topic (touchy subject, I guess), 2. Please keep us Natives in your mind, we are human as well as you, 3. Thank you for reading. I felt as if I was all over the place. I'm very sorry about that, too!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
