As you walk into the kitchen or any other room of your home for that matter, you might very well see a creepy spider just waiting to make some kind of insect its next meal. Even though most spiders are harmless to humans, there are some that can cause illnesses, such as the brown recluse. Aside from the possibility of making you sick, a spider simply isn't a creature that is designed to be pretty to look at all the time. Fortunately, there are a few tricks that you can use to keep them away from the home.

Sweet Scents

Your home can smell like Christmas all year while you get rid of spiders at the same time. Dab a bit of peppermint oil on cotton balls, placing them in corners of the home where you have seen spiders and where the critters can get inside. Another sweet scent that will work is coconut oil. It's not as strong in the way that it smells, but it will work the same as the peppermint.

Professional Help

If you don't want to deal with the pests, then consider getting a pest control company, like A-Alert Exterminating Service Inc, to come spray around the outside of your home and on the inside. There are crevices and areas of the house that a professional will know better than you know are common hiding spaces for spiders. You can be rest assured that the products that are used are safe for family members while eliminating your critter situation.

Sticky Traps

These are often used with catching mice, but they are wonderful for trapping spiders as well. Place the sticky traps in areas that spiders are seen and in dark places in the home, such as underneath sinks and inside cabinets. The spiders will walk across them and not be able to move any longer because they will be stuck to the glue. This is like using their own webs against them.

Outside Beauty

Keeping the outside of the home beautiful and manicured is a reflection of the pride that you take in the home, and it's also a way to keep spiders at bay. They see leaves, tall grass and dark spaces as a breeding ground. When you take away potential homes for spiders, then you can easily keep them away from your home.

There are few people who are thrilled to see a spider in their home. There are some that can bite and make you sick, but overall, they are just annoying to have in the home as they appear to be unsanitary. Get them out while you can with a few simple tricks, blending a few ideas together to get the best results.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
