Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’ve always believed that since I was a little girl. Everyone has something about him or her that makes them beautiful, I don’t care who they are. Beauty isn’t just about physical attractiveness; it’s also about how beautiful someone is on the inside as well. Beauty is defined as: “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” In other words, everyone can see the beauty in anything. It doesn’t just have to be the beauty of someone’s body or face.
Whenever I think of beauty, looks are the last thing that comes to mind because that’s just the way I’ve always been. I’m always more concerned about how beautiful people are on the inside then they are on the outside. To me, if someone is an awful, ugly person on the inside, then that person will be on the outside as well. I have no respect for people who are just awful and mean all the time; it’s very unattractive to me.
The definition of beauty is different to everyone. Each individual has a different perspective and view of beauty. It is either categorized as something that comes from inside or outside a person or thing. Someone’s inner beauty can be seen as completely different with what people view as outer beauty. Although people say that outer beauty is the first aspect other people will look at and judge others by, it’s never an excuse to not notice a person’s inner beauty. With these two types of beauties in mind, we can think about which one is the true sense of beauty.
Even though I and lots of other girls wear it, makeup does not emphasize who we really are either. A lot of people are incredibly talented at makeup, and I commend them for that. But I see it as a way of hiding ourselves. It feels heavy to wear makeup, on our bodies and personalities. Makeup is a way of cloaking ourselves from our true natures; it’s about the same as a mask. Why do we wear makeup? Some would say it’s because they simply enjoy it, which is respectable, but sometimes it could just be a way to hide your true self.
Real beauty is rarely seen by people. Confucius once said: “Everything has beauty, but not everyone can see it.” I hope that one-day people can see people’s beauty. Their real beauty. Not just who they appear to be behind makeup. Everyone is truly beautiful and has something beautiful about them, no matter who they are.
